The Telephone Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing telecommunication systems, including telephone lines, voice-over IP (VoIP) systems, and associated hardware and software. This role ensures reliable and efficient communication systems to support organizational operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation and Setup:
- Install, configure, and test telephone systems, VoIP systems, and related equipment.
- Establish new telephone lines, extensions, and cabling.
- Program and update phone system software.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance on telecommunication equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to hardware, wiring, or software.
- Repair or replace faulty components or equipment as needed.
- Technical Support:
- Provide user support and training on telephone system features and functionality.
- Respond promptly to service requests and resolve issues efficiently.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
- Generate reports on system performance and service activities.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all installations and repairs meet industry standards and safety regulations.
- Keep up-to-date with advancements in telecommunications technology and implement best practices.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or certification in telecommunications is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Telephone Technician or in a related role.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of telephone systems, VoIP, and networking protocols.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing telecommunication hardware and software.
- Familiarity with cabling, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong customer service and communication abilities.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and lift some weight
- Willingness to travel to various job sites if required.
Work Environment
- May involve working indoors and outdoors.
- Flexible hours, including on-call rotations or overtime, may be required.
Preferred Certifications
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Ericsson LG or Mitel certification
